A large police presence was called to Cardiff city centre following a stabbing earlier today.

A 44-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Officers were alerted to the incident just after 9am on Tuesday, November 23 and a cordon was established off Dumballs Road, outside a housing options centre.

Hansen Street remains closed as investigations continue, however, Dumballs Road is open as normal.

Nine police vehicles and three ambulances, CID, and forensics were at the scene.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: “A man has been arrested in connection with an incident near Dumballs Road this morning. South Wales Police is investigating a stabbing in Hansen Street, Butetown, Cardiff shortly after at 9am this morning.

“A 44-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is in custody. Hansen Street remains closed off by a police cordon and we thank the local community for their co-operation while enquiries continue.”

The Huggard Centre have confirmed the incident did not occur within the building, and the centre remains opened to assist those in need.
